I cannot think of one person who has inspired me, believed in me and pushed me (in a good way) more at this University.

Tim has been at the University of North Carolina as a Lecturer of Voice since 2003.  He also serves as the Coordinator of the Music Minor and Non-Major Voice Study and a department academic advisor.

In addition to his private voice studio, he teaches German and Italian diction courses.  He created a Voice Class for beginning students who were not ready for private voice lessons but wanted to prepare for solo performance opportunities.

My lessons were always engaging and informative! Mr. Sparks goes above and beyond and is always enthusiastic, supportive, and full of knowledge! He explains concepts from many angles, which help my understanding of vocal techniques and approaches.

He had taught at Meredith College for 10 years prior to joining the UNC voice faculty, where he won four Faculty Development Awards.  He taught diction, pedagogy, and voice class in addition to his voice studio of graduate and undergraduate students.

Tim is proud that 100% of his students seeking higher education have been accepted to graduate programs.  He is also pleased by the number of his students who have placed out of graduate diction classes.

Professor Sparks is an excellent professor and I personally find his discipline a driving factor for success, which constantly makes me better. He will never lie and tell you you’re right if you’re wrong, and when you are right, it feels good.

Tim has served in multiple positions for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), including North Carolina President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Governor.  His students have won multiple NATS competitions at both the state and regional level.

He has taught at summer programs including the Montreat Conference of Worship and Music, Operafestival di Roma, and the International Young Artist Project.
